WebSep 3, 2011 · yeah, you can hear it. it's super subtle. here is the deal on dither. when you move from 24bit to 16bit you throw out data. no surprise right. 24 bits can represent a larger range of amplitudes. dither is an attempt to preserve what is lost. it's way more technical then that...but that's the gist. I definitely wouldn't use any noise shaping when dithering to 24. Noise shape to what suits the audio best when dithering to 16. For me, it's usually no noise shaping.
